Just updated again with comments from Gov. Ivey. Sec. Allen now has until next Wednesday (not Friday) to certify the candidates on the special primary ballots. She did not address calling a second special session to redistrict for a 7-0 map. I did ask.

Just updated this: The U.S. Solicitor General filed a brief in support of the state. Justice Thomas gave plaintiffs until 4 p.m. on Monday to respond, denying the state an immediate decision. That timing is six hours after the state's initial "no later than" request.

Via Anna Barrett: Speaking to supporters on Tuesday evening, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville said he was "running against socialism and communism." Former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones said he wanted to build a government that "truly belongs to the people of Alabama."

And Gov. Ivey has signed both HB 1 and SB 1. Got the statement to my email 30 seconds ago. To be clear, Ivey is required under the legislation to call a special election for the districts affected if the injunctions are lifted by their respective courts.

The Alabama Senate passed HB 1, setting up new primary elections for CDs 1, 2, 6 & 7. It passed along party lines. As far as I know, there are no protests in or around the Senate, contrary to the House. More soon.

Meanwhile in the Senate, we have a standard (all things considered) Democratic filibuster. So far no protests in the upper chamber, or any sign of them in the gallery. Sens. Singleton and Smitherman have both spoken. The latter is almost done with his first hour with Sen. Figures on deck.

Protestors prevailed cheers. Rep. Kelvin Datcher, D-Birmingham, asked protestors to allow them to debate downstairs in order to build a legal case against the bills.
