Took part in Summer Research in Math at SLMath for the last two weeks. My group is using invariant theory to approach some conjectures in graph theory. This is the last year of SLMath's SRiM programme.

Casually used the word "vicissitudes" in a meeting today. I may be part of the problem.

Continuing my tour of Math Institutes, I spent a few weeks at Centro de Investigación en Matemáticas (CIMAT) in Guanajuato Mexico! www.cimat.mx The architecture there is gorgeous and disorienting. I started a collaboration and will hopefully be learning about matroids.

Fascinating: because the NSFs new rules require awardees to certify they won't use funds to "promote or advance DEI", at least one college has decided to no longer accept NSF grants. The legal risk was too high. I wonder if this is a broader phenomenon (maybe for otherwise well-resourced school)...
