dear journals: doing one peer review for you does not mean I've signed up to do one peer review every other week for you.

sometimes I wonder about my choice to leave a mainstream academic path. then I remember I almost never work on weekends anymore, and also that when I left my old institution I then did *free work* (supervision/review) for them for a full year after.

my files are a mess and my blood pressure is low: a pregnant academic story.

A fun fact about me is that if someone asks for an article of mine and I send it and never hear back I assume they hate it (and me) 🙃

For the first time in my life I took the full 2 week time period allotted to doing a peer review rather than feeling self imposed pressure to turn it around in 48-72 hours. Feels good 😂

I've stopped "getting credit" for peer reviews on tracking sites for a few reasons: 1. there are a bunch & they don't consolidate. 2. they suggest this "raises your profile as a reviewer." I've no interest in raising my profile as a reviewer. I like reviewing but I don't need to do more free labour.

It's been 14 years since my ED day hospital tx admission. I used to celebrate this day as my "recover-versary." I stopped doing that a while ago-not because I'm not doing well, but partly b/c I *am*. That version of me feels like a distant memory. I don't "do recovery" perfectly & I no longer care.

To be honest, until I learned that emetophobia was a thing (probably sometime in my 20s was the first time I heard about it) I assumed everyone felt the way I did about the potential to get sick (read: horrendously afraid, highly anxious, and willing to do anything to avoid it) 😆

I have been studying eating disorder recovery for 12 years. and to be honest, I think I've nearly reached the limit of what I can say about it, with the kinds of research I'm able to do, from my particular perspective. don't get me wrong, I think it's important to research & talk about.

recovering from a migraine is always an interesting experience. and by that I mean, pretty awful.

it's a problematic policy to not allow refunds for a conference in these times, yes? in my view this promotes attending even if sick because of being unable to recoup the cost of a conference you *paid to present your work at*

the constant struggle of seeking help with medical things while making sure practitioners understand that due to your ED history you're profoundly uninterested in changing your diet unless there is a *very strong rationale* for doing so.

I'm really annoying about Qualitative methodologies. and most of my learning has been from making my own mistakes, learning more, and doing it differently the next time around.

just had a journal I don't regularly review for ask me to review & when I said no they emailed me & tried to guilt me into doing it. I do *more* than my fair share of reviews. this was obnoxious.

Hot take: orienting to ED recovery as a process and something you are “in” vs “have achieved” is not “settling for less.” In recovery/“recovered” might look functionally the same on the outside—perhaps we could just let people orient to their own experience in their own ways?

every time I'm working with a new qualitative dataset I think about how sample sizes are sometimes deemed "too small" when in fact the sheer amount of data is very large, not to mention the depth. e.g., the 14 interviews (not even super long ones) I'm looking @ now = more 80 000 words.
