This year I tracked how much money I'm (theoretically) saving by using my local library (I read a lot, especially when stressed) 📖 I read 100+ books this year, and 71 were from the library (physical or digital) 🤯 If I had bought all those books form

it would have cost...$1,506.87

I’m gonna say it…I don’t care if your causal inference methods need to be more complex in order to protect consumers from being price gouged based on their individual characteristics in the future

📢 TEACH DATA SCIENTISTS TIME/SPACE COMPLEXITY FOR COMMON ALGOS AT INFERENCE/TRAINING!! EVEN IF THEYRE NOT DOING MLOPS-Y STUFF, IF YOURE WORKING AT A COMPANY WITH HUGE AMOUNTS OF DATA, IT WILL BE HELPFUL TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN DESIGNING ANALYSES.

You know that thing Coco Chanel said about accessories? “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off” We should all do that but with about 50% of the text we put in slide decks. TAKE. IT. OUT.

Yes! I think we do need to be more clear about the benefits you get from being in the right hand column vs the benefits of being in the bottom row !!!

what are those ✨nostalgic✨ textbooks for you? not the most useful textbooks, or the ones you liked the most, but the ones that really take you back... for me, Strang's Linear Algebra and Casella + Berger's Statistical Inference come to mind

THAT INCREASE IN PRECISION OF YOUR ESTIMATE COMES AT THE COST OF MORE ASSUMPTIONS AND/OR OUTSIDE INFORMATION. MAKE SURE THOSE ASSUMPTIONS ARE GOOD!!!

Just because an LLM can give you an output that’s not immediately and obviously wrong doesn’t mean it is a USEFUL or correct output I think we need to spend a LOT more time thinking about whether the lack of trust/verification of these outputs is a dealbreaker (I’d guess…it is)

There’s something really powerful about justifiable approximations 😍 Being in industry for a bit, I’m really learning to love the process of “right-sizing” analyses and providing emperical support for any approximations/simplifications that are needed.

’s “What is Confounding?” blog this morning. What a great way to: 1: help people understand what confounding is doing and 2: show why randomization gets rid of a lot of causal worries for you! 🔗:

If you’re struggling to understand CUPED for A/B testing, but you already understand why a paired T-test has higher power than a two-sample T-test on the same data, congratulations you actually do understand the important parts of CUPED!

Explaining things to people who are learning about them for the first time is the BEST WAY to strengthen your own knowledge and communication skills🤯 You 1) figure out what you don’t know well enough to explain 2) get incredible questions that help you understand what’s not intuitive to newbies
