There’s been a trend lately of people telling me I’m lame for complaining about THINGS -toys, movies, tv shows- and I should stop whining, only for them to complain about PEOPLE. That’s not chill. If you’re gonna gripe, gripe about stuff, not fellow human beings.

This is my Friday night. I swear I’m gonna stay awake long enough to have a couple drinks and watch a movie.

Watched the first episode of Haunted Hotel on Netflix and thought it was entertaining. Animated series about a woman and her kids running a place crammed full of different ghosts, demons, and otherworldly monsters, with a Rick & Morty kinda vibe. Anyone else watch it?

It doesn’t matter what your gender is, your race, your sexual orientation or age or economic background or religious belief, we are all united by one thing: Our excitement for glow-in-the-dark stuff.

Rewatching FRANKENWEENIE. This movie is gorgeous. So many visual Easter eggs to old horror movies and animators flexing as hard as they can. Just a beautiful flick.

For the first time in my 41 years, I drank while showering. It was a delight.

If “Monster Mash” is the “White Christmas” of Halloween, then “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker Jr. is its “Jingle Bells.” I will not elaborate further.

Watching the first HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA with my kid. This bit still makes me laugh out loud: Johnny: So is the garlic thing true? Drac: Yes. I cannot have it. My throat swells. Johnny: And the wooden stake through the heart? Drac: Yeah well, who wouldn’t that kill?

Call me old-fashioned, but when a kid walks into my Halloween store already sporting a classic gorilla suit, I think that needs to be celebrated.

Ever since I was four or five and saw the illustrations in the back margins of the Pennywhistle Halloween Book, I’ve wanted these novelty records. Happy to have Vol. II in my hands. Still on the hunt for Vol. I. It’s a pumpkin! 🦇 🎃

Had an older guy ask me if we were selling ICE costumes. I put as much disappointment and repulsion into the word “NO” as I could possibly muster.

Spirit Halloween with the lights off is a different kind of spooky.

I’m watching a movie because the filmmaking family who made it came into my store this weekend. Told them I would check it out. The acting is above average, but there’s a lot of dead air in scenes and way too much time spent panning over dirty warehouse floors. Dunno if I can finish this.

If I used everything that’s happened in my first four days of managing a Spirit Halloween as part of a comedy screenplay, it would get rejected for being unrealistic. What a wild opening weekend. 😅
