Taking the opportunity days before the TikTok ban to re-promote my New Media & Society paper (co-authored with @elenamaris.bsky.social and @hibby.bsky.social) about mutual aid practices on TikTok journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/... It was not all “dance videos” (but even if it was?).

“Acknowledge,” not condemn. “Cultural generalization,” not racist stereotype. “Reinforces implicit biases,” not made explicitly racist statements. “Dedicated to being a diverse and inclusive place,” not we failed our diverse community by platforming racism and xenophobia. 🥴
