Our amazing Central Highlands weeding volunteers have done it again! For the 14th summer in a row, our #volunteers have been diligently searching for ragwort & mullein on our Reserves. Over 4 weeks, volunteers have treated & recorded over 16k plants. #Thankyou so much to our incredible vollies!

Latham’s #Snipe travel from #Japan & #Russia each spring, but their cryptic behaviour means they’re rarely seen. However, we are happy to report that this season we recorded 148 Latham’s #Snipe at TLC’s Silver Plains Reserve over 4 months, with Nov producing the highest counts.

You never know what might be lurking in the cloudy depths at the bottom of your #garden! Rose Levanti-Niblock captured these gentle giants, #giantfreshwatercrayfish (Astacopsis gouldii), foraging on the creek bed on her #LandforWildlife property in North-West #Tasmania.

Tim & Marie had just joined our #LandforWildlife program when the fire near St Helens burnt much of their land. Their new LFW sign was one of the casualties, so Anna visited to take them a new one. So far, it seems that fire has killed the existing thorny wattle (Acacia paradoxa) weed, hooray!

Incoming! A #brownfalcon captured by #WildTracker participants ramshackle_shackers in Gardners Bay. Its dark 'malar stripes' (under-eye markings) are thought to reduce sun glare, a function confirmed in Peregrine Falcons. However, the exact purpose for other species remains a mystery.

Our #science team have been spending a lot of early 2026 at our Silver Plains Reserve, on the banks of Lake Sorell. It’s dispersal season for #easternquolls, which means it’s a good time for us to pick up new individuals & take small genetic samples for ongoing research.

We welcomed long-time TLC supporters, the McGregor family, to Prosser River Reserve for some #weeding. In 2019, the McGregors used their late parents' estate to purchase the property. David McGregor left most of his #estate to be devoted to securing & maintaining land with high #conservation values.

Thanks to everyone who joined us at Big Punchbowl Reserve on the Freycinet Peninsula in Dec 25 for guided walks, inspiring talks & a deep dive into this stunning #wetland landscape with the TLC team & special guests.

We have #goodnews! The #data is in, & our #Spring monitoring has revealed a positive update for the #wrinkleddollybush (Cassinia rugata). We found that the seedlings we planted are doing well, with 90% surviving their 1st yr.

This #wombat's hunger knows no bounds! Our reserves officer, Dan Gfeller, spotted our very own superhero, Aqua Wombat, at our Big Punchbowl Reserve chowing down on some aquatic vegetation & getting more than just its toes wet in the process.

The final 2025 #Honorary Life Member we would like to #celebrate is Rob Blakers. Rob is a world-renowned #photographer who has been photographing TLC reserves for more than 10 yrs. By doing so, he has created a comprehensive & lasting visual record of TLC’s conservation estate.

Late in 2025, an intrepid team of #volunteers braved the elements to carry out #cidergum cage maintenance in the central highlands. It rained, it hailed, they sheltered in vehicles while storms passed, but regardless, they managed to open all 12 cages.

Stuart Cowell & Leigh Walters, 2 former staff members, became TLC Honorary Life Members in Nov this yr. Stuart was key in applying #ConservationStandards & capacity building. Leigh dedicated 17 years, helping TLC grow overnight from <2,000 ha to >30,000 ha. #Thankyou both!

2 unwavering champions of #conservation in #Tasmania became TLC Honorary Life Members this yr. Dr Matt Appleby & Dr Kerry Bridle have dedicated their careers to improving conservation outcomes on private land & within landscapes facing the strongest land-use change pressure in Tas.

All we want for #Christmas is #wetlands alive with returning birds & woodlands still connected enough for #wildlife to move safely. But as #bushland disappears, the climate shifts and invasive species spread, < 650 Tasmanian species are now threatened with #extinction.
