For further context twitter added a button that allows users to generate ai images using existing art posts from artists. It removes glaze and it basically reskins the artwork by using the existing work as a base. Twitter is no longer a safe space for art

Alt text is good! It's a good practice to have with posting online, a great skill to learn/teach, with benefits across multiple ability levels. That being said: - Barriers still exist for consistently providing alt text - Angry callout posts on specific folks don't make these conversations easier

Blargh okay I ended up deleting my whole thread on alt text stuff because I felt like my initial post was too easy to draw "if you don't do it I think you're evil" kind of conclusions from which is NOT the kind of message I wanna spread here

what you should do: repost art; write alt-text as much as you can; encourage others to do the same what you shouldn't do: engage in harassment campaigns against people who don't write alt-text or repost art, either when they forget or ever. folks who use alt text never asked for this.
