Today, I attended the opening of the Obama Presidential Center, a historic moment for Chicago, Cook County and our nation. The Center will honor the legacy of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama while inspiring future generations of leaders.

Today, I announced $20 million for Community Violence Intervention efforts in Cook County, including $5 million in grants available now and a new $15 million funding opportunity. These investments support the community partners doing lifesaving work every day.

Yesterday, I joined community leaders and residents to celebrate the groundbreaking of CARE MANOR, which will bring 44 affordable housing units to Chicago’s West Side. Affordable housing strengthens neighborhoods, supports families and creates opportunities for future generations.

This AANHPI Heritage Month, we recognize the generations who have shaped Cook County’s communities, culture and economy. Their leadership and resilience are part of our shared story as we continue working to ensure every community can thrive.

This past Saturday, we partnered with Rebuilding Together Metro Chicago to support a Maywood resident with critical home repairs. Helping residents stay safe in the homes they love is what this work is all about.

Today we broke ground on the Red Line Extension, a historic investment in the South Side. This project will expand access to jobs, education and opportunity, helping ensure that a person’s ZIP code does not determine their future.

It was a pleasure to welcome young people to Cook County for Take a Child to Work Day. I hope today sparked curiosity, encouraged big dreams and showed that public service is a meaningful way to make a difference.

For 60 years, Stroger Hospital’s trauma team has delivered lifesaving care. As the nation’s first comprehensive trauma center, it continues to lead with high distinction. We extend our deepest gratitude to the team for their service and commitment to the people of Cook County.

’m proud to see art that reflects our communities. Cook County Health unveiled a new mural at its Bronzeville Health Center, created by local artist Amanda Stout. Part of an effort to create welcoming spaces and strengthen community connection.

Cook County’s first suburban EV charging site is live at Cicero Public Library. This is the first of several installations funded through ARPA, helping reduce emissions and expand access to clean transportation.

Events like this always bring me back to my roots as a teacher. I was proud to open the 8th annual Southworks Engineering and Robotics Olympics at South Suburban College, featuring students from area high schools. These are the pathways shaping our future workforce.

April is Arab American Heritage Month. We are proud to recognize and celebrate the contributions of Arab American communities across Cook County and the lasting impact they have on our region.

Today, we marked the largest on-site solar installation in Cook County history at the Skokie Courthouse. Cleaner energy, lower costs and real progress toward our climate goals.
