If the wizards at Microsoft could make PowerPoint stop doing that thing where all of a sudden all your pictures disappear and you can't save your file and you lose three hours of work that would be great

Just found that the title of one my papers has been wrong on my CV for 18 years. The reviewers requested that we shorten it in the final revision and I forgot to change it on my CV when the paper went to press.

AI is everywhere. Why can't it read my email backlog and make me a priority list of which ones to deal with first? I would prefer this to the distracting auto-suggestions of words I don't actually want to type.

was for me maybe the most important meeting I have ever been to. My science will be drastically improved by my interactions over the past week. It was bittersweet due to the current situation and the people who weren't there, but I'm optimistic that we are strong enough to overcome this.

Had dinner with a friend from grad school days. She said "haven't seen you in forever" and I said "didn't we see each other at an Evolution meeting not that long ago?" We figured out it was at the Raleigh meeting. In 2014. 👴

PowerPoint voice recognition technology is a weird combination of very good and very bad. Why doesn't it use the words on the slides to help it come up with the right spellings of uncommon words (species names, etc.)? Why does it get stuck and miss whole sentences sometimes?

I remember being anxious as a junior scientist trying to introduce myself to senior people at meetings. Now I'm one of the senior people, I guess. Consider this your invitation to come introduce yourself if we haven't met.

Al Foster was the drummer on so many of my favorite records. The State of the Tenor with Joe Henderson and Ron Carter stands out as a big one. RIP, Maestro.

Al Foster, drummer for Miles Davis and Sonny Rollins, has died
The superbly alert and flexible drummer formed a swirling current in modern jazz for more than 60 years. He was 82.

Does anyone remember singing a song in chemistry class that went: Wasting away again in Moles-per-liter-ville Calculating my concentration of salt Some people claim that Mendeleev's to blame But I know it's Avogadro's fault I swear there was a recording of this with other molarity-themed lyrics.

ACTION ITEM-----ACTION ITEM Implementation of Schedule F This is what a lot of us have been worried about. This allows for many civil service positions to replaced with political appointees. This could include NIH institute directors and even POs. BUT THERE IS A COMMENT PERIOD... 1/n

and… 1. Download your NSF award letters. 2. Print PDF your annual reports. 3. Screenshot the status table for annual reports. NSF is planning maintenance tomorrow to

Talking today at Tufts University on stop #2 on my Spring Seminar Tour. This will be the same talk I gave at UNC recently except for the one slide I said was probably wrong (it was). Apologies to the UNC folks. DM me if you want the right answer. I guess we will also write a paper at some point.
