taipei main station urban sketching

a whole day spent urban/life sketching! the portion i am sharing today is from an evening spent at the taipei jazz festival. i had prepped some sketchbook pages ahead of time blue and yellow and it fit the flashing yellow blue lights perfectly #urbansketching #livesketching #jazz

spent today doing life drawing in the mountains, it was really cool! perhaps that art will be shown another time. afterwards, painted a little bit at a cafe before the sun set. create everyday 60/365

finally finally after thinking about it for ages i am starting to use my bigger sketchbook. i have been itching to paint for a long time but kept putting it off because i felt like my skills werent at a point yet where i was comfortable using up paints (theyre not cheap!) create everyday 59/365

mindless doodling led to this funky portrait. anyway, asian women are often on my mind. i am one. and the experience of being one pervades my mind. how often we are conflated and stereotyped and assumptions be made. create everyday 58/365

first doodled in the sketchbook with some posca markers and color pencils. after some abstract patterns and a page formed, i decided to keep building on it via the ipad. looking into the shapes for what was there but also making it up as i went, a face came to be. create everyday 57/365

drawing a feeling. is it a person in a sleeping bag? or a worm with a humane face. either way, its a feeling of my scalp being pulled back, tight and snug. cozy and yet, somethings not quite right create everyday 55/365

wow i unintentionally took like a week break. a lot of life happened but a break was good! i feel ready to draw regularly again and its amazing how a week of not drawing can actually inform the drawing process. create everyday 54/365

today we did a trial run to practice some poses and ideas for improv life drawing night! we came up with words based on the alphabet and then our model did some poses while i drew on my ipad, not looking down at the page but focusing on the model.

todays doodle painting with some old dried out gouache colors that had been in an altoids tin for forever. i put a ton of water to rewet the paint and spent the session using up all the colored water. it was lovely! create everyday 39/365 painted while hanging @newbloommag.net pen club!

12/365 - my favorite thing to do ever is doodle and letting myself play with colors and shapes and whatever i feel like. this is when i get most immersed in art and have fun. i like with traditional materials but on ipad is also fun because i have so many brushes colors and textures to play with.

10/365 - in recent doodles, i started drawing faces on bird bodies and then i couldn’t stop thinking about a human face on an owl body. i have been reading more about zoomorphic motifs in ancient art from the region of china today

9/365 - omg learning animation and after effects is very time consuming. i had a doodle of a penguin with a spiral tummy and it turned into this. drew the things in procreate and then composited in AE

8/365 - inspired by a doodle of two girls running in opposite directions but with a hair plant connecting them! i had a lot of fun playing with the colors for the grass and the tree #illustration #doodle #procreate

7/365 - a tiger on a magic carpet (?) played around with no line work today. i do really love collage-y art. the colors of the background remind me of a regular ol’ living room. perhaps this is just a house cat chilling at home

6/365 - i love how this one turned out! combined two previous doodles and played with some pens. the human has two holes in her and is sad but a rainbow pops out and the plants are present and lovely 🌈🌹

5/365 — i start every drawing just doodling and building from there. was surprised to find myself ending up here! i never thought i would find interest in drawing humans and yet here i am. thanks to life drawing sessions. #365challenge
