We are aware of reports and concerns of a loud boom earlier this afternoon. At this time, it appears the noise was heard and felt across Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. However, we are unaware of any specific issues or incidents originating in Cambridge.

Despite some periods of rain, the Cambridge Memorial Day Ceremony on Cambridge Common was well attended. Members of the CPD Command Staff, Traffic Unit, Honor Guard, and Family Social Justice Section were proud to take part and honor those who have served.

Last week members of the Honor Guard travelled to Washington D.C. to for National Police Week ceremonies. These ceremonies are meant to recognize the service and sacrifice of police officers, particularly those who have been injured or perished in the line of duty.

Earlier today, a contingent of CPD officers, supervisors, and command staff traveled to Salem for the funeral services of fallen Massachusetts State Trooper Kevin Trainor. The CPD extends our condolences to all those impacted by his tragic passing.

Earlier today, Detective Lopez and Off. Costa-Hernandez from the Family & Social Justice Section joined students from the CambridgePort School for their "Girls on the Run" program. The officers escorted the group while they went on a 5k run around the neighborhood.

At approximately 1:30pm CPD responded to a report of gun shots on Memorial Drive near River St. CPD and State Police are on-scene, however there is no on-going danger to the public. Residents are asked to please avoid the area. Additional information will be publicized when it is available.

The Cambridge Police Department extends our condolences to our partners at the Massachusetts State Police on the Line-of-Duty death of a Trooper overnight. The Trooper was involved in a crash with a wrong way driver on Route 1 in Lynnfield.

This past weekend, CPD Officers responding to a call for service discovered an individual who illegally possessed a loaded firearm. The firearm and ammunition were both seized as evidence; the individual is now facing related charges in Cambridge District Court. Read more: https://bit.ly/4mYu5zd

This morning at 2:30am CPD, @cambridgemafire.bsky.social and ProEMS responded to Hampshire St. for a rollover crash. Involved vehicle had flipped after a collision with parked cars. No injuries were reported, the cause of the crash is under investigation.

Last Friday, several CPD Officers were assigned in and around Harvard Sq. to assist with with traffic and safety related to the 150th Anniversary Celebration of the Harvard Lampoon. The event was well attended and included several high profile individuals with ties to the organization.

Updated 04/27/2026 - The previously shared Missing Person, Toshiaki Takenaka, has been located in good health and has been taken to a local hospital. He is no longer considered to be missing. The Cambridge Police Department is grateful to those who shared this post or otherwise provided assistance.

Yesterday, CPD Officers from several specialty units were in Brookline to provide public safety assistance for the 130th running of the Boston Marathon. While at the event, officers had the opportunity to interact with spectators while sharing words of encouragement to the passing runners.

Today several off-duty officers competed in Tough Ruck 26.2 Boston. This annual event raises funds and awareness for first responders and military service members who have been lost in the line of duty. Job well done!

Earlier today CPD, @cambridgemafire.bsky.social and Pro EMS responded to the intersection of Mt. Auburn St. and Lowell St. for a motor vehicle crash that sent one vehicle into a building. No serious injuries were reported, the cause of the crash is under investigation by the CPD Traffic Unit.

Overnight CPD officers were on-hand to assist Cambridge Fire with traffic and pedestrian safety while they handled a small fire inside of a building near Harvard Sq. The incident was promptly contained, no injuries were reported.
