Zaun is written to show the dystopian underbelly of the steampunk genre, the world a gilded ‘topside’ fantasy relies on. For example, in the era that steampunk is patterned on a full 50% of the workforce was child labor. Children with parents started between 9-14. Orphans could be as young as 4-6.

I staunchly maintain that Sky Young is not from Zaun. She was deliberately shown above Viktor and not going down to his level, that the facility built there (steel oasis) was symbolic of the further divide between the cities over his lifetime, and that she showed economic divides in Piltover itself.
