I wasn't expecting much notice from this but the way to fix this was noted below in the comments: Settings -> Languages -> third from the top, set to "No Preference"

Thinking about how bsky has the most horrible setting turned on by default that says "i don't want to see any other languages except English" and if no one tells you to put it on "no selection" you straight up won't see posts from people set to different languages on your TL.

Two bits of advice for new artist: 1. Put your best work somewhere easy to access. Do not put it on twitter or instagram. 2. If you want to ask people if you can do commission work, ask people who are actively looking for artists. Do not ask people who are clearly struggling for money themselves.
