Reading old books, I always wonder why "everyone" around here wanted a railroad to Vincennes, Indiana. I can never remember the Ohio & Mississippi Railroad. Running between Cincinnati and East St. Louis, it passed right through Vincennes. At Cincinnati, it was (loosely) connected to the B&O.

Huh. I always thought of Dearborn Station as Santa Fe.... It turns out that it was the Chicago & Eastern Illinois, through their subsidiary*, the Chicago & Western Indiana Railroad, who built the station! C&WI went on to build the Belt Railway of Chicago, later repeated in Evansville, IN.

Well, here's an odd creature: A 1913 Mt. Vernon Car Co. caboose, rebuilt in 1940 for mixed train service. The rebuild included the creation of a baggage compartment and door, and the removal of the cupola. Seating capacity was twelve.
