A question I keep hearing from folks across Canada is pretty simple: “What the heck is going on in Alberta?” It’s a fair question, given all the headlines lately. Separatism is a real threat, and it’s time for Canada, politicians and citizens alike, to act.

We need more beds, but a hospital bed is not just a physical space with a bed in it - it’s people - nurses, doctors, and other professionals. The UCP claim they are going to “fix the system,” but they can’t or won’t understand this basic fact, so they fail. 1/2 #ableg

This morning the UCP refused to give Elections Alberta the resources to verify a recall petition. This is their own legislation. Basically they are only “pro democracy” until the people actually use the power… so not actually pro democracy at all. #ableg

The UCP could have avoided this strike. They could have addressed valid concerns about classroom conditions. They didn’t. Because it’s not about what’s best for kids. For the UCP it’s about winning - and not everyone winning - just them winning, and more importantly someone else losing. #ableg

Alberta has the lowest minimum wage in the country. Alberta has the highest youth unemployment in the country. This is a very strong argument AGAINST the idea that raising the minimum wage increases youth unemployment. Why did Smith say the opposite - she is lying or incompetent. #AbLeg

The UCP is willing to spend millions of dollars A DAY to fight against better classroom conditions. How many EAs could they hire a year for one week of spending on this - because I bet it’s more than the 1500 EAs they offered. Which means this isn’t about budget -it’s about power and spite. #AbLeg

Our Premier is absurd. “I didn’t want them to enforce the law the way I wrote it, and they should have known that” should be disqualifying for any legislator. This isn’t left-right anymore, it’s a question of basic competence. #AbLeg

It’s the first day of school and my kid is so big! It’s amazing how fast it happens! Our kids are turning into the people they are going to be and every experience will help form that. Which is why it is so important that we invest in them now. But the UCP government isn’t. #AbLeg
