James Townsend Wigney was a Huddersfield photographer who during the summer seasons of the 1860s set up a studio in Scarborough Assembly Rooms. His portraits of theatrical celebrities and politicians can be found in national museum collections. www.photoscarborough.org.uk/james-wigney

Oliver Sarony is probably the best known of all of the Scarborough photographers. His studio on South Cliff was at one time the largest in Europe. This carbon print cabinet card with an unknown sitter illustrates why he was so well known. #sarony #photography #carbonprint #photographichistory
