Chapter submitted. It was my first exploring my Davidson campus history research for an edited volume on campus histories. My chapter focused on two men whose campus ties began in slavery and end with their death in the Jim Crow era. Can't wait for the feedback. #amwriting

With pending construction near historic buildings, I adjusted the syllabus. Students did shovel tests. They found some pottery shards, broken ceramic plates, coal & old gravel used in the old pathways. They loved talking to the Dean, campus chaplain and campus archivists about it. #campushistory

I am so excited for this event! Can't wait to discuss the book at one of my favorite DC bookstores.

Another interesting book fact. I originally had the content of the Porch Lessons within the traditional chapters to the dismay of family and early readers. When my editor suggested that I make this content its own sections, I easily wrote them. Trust your editor and early readers.

Another interesting thing about the book. It has photos, including one of me with my grandmother and brother. In it, you will see the porch that shaped the first four chapters. The other ones either come from my own photo collection or specific archives.

Some interesting facts about Unforgettable Sacrifice. I organized the book around porches of my maternal, adopted, and paternal kinkeepers. With the exception of the Richmond chapter, I can tell you whose porch or porches where I heard some of the family and community histories covered in the book.
