”That our flag was still there” 211 years ago today, Francis Scott Key immortalized the moment when our country won a hard-fought battle with the British and our flag remained flying over Baltimore’s own Fort McHenry in his poem “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

In 2001, Janice Hayes Williams rode shotgun with her Uncle George to visit the Crownsville Hospital Patient Cemetery for the first time – what she saw devastated her. On the gravestones where there should have been names, dates, or any dedication to someone’s life, there were only numbers.

On May 30th, Maryland’s Third District lost one of our youngest members – Hugh Nie – who was just 17 months old. Hugh tragically lost his life to Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood, but his time was filled with joy and loving memories and his impact in our community is still felt.

We have another update from the U.S. Naval Academy: the Midshipman who was injured has been released. I'm grateful to the doctors and nurses at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, and all those involved in ensuring the safety of our Midshipmen as the Naval Academy resumes operations.

A quick update this morning from the U.S. Naval Academy. The Midshipman who was shot in the shoulder last night during the clearing of a building is expected to make a full recovery. Thank you to the first responders, nurses, and doctors for their swift action.

Today, the U.S. Naval Academy went on lockdown after threats against the Academy. There is no active shooter threat, but one Midshipman was injured while Naval Security Forces were clearing a building. Thankfully, they are in stable condition. Please see my full statement below.

Here is what we know: There is currently no active threat at the U.S. Naval Academy.  I am actively working in coordination with the Navy, our first responders, and the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. As we wait for further details, I want to extend my gratitude to our first responders.

Nearly 19,000 people in Maryland’s Third Congressional District and 206,000 Marylanders are projected to lose health care because of President Trump's Big Ugly Law.

Today, after careful consideration, I voted against the NDAA. This was not the vote I hoped to take. House Republicans walked away from nine months of bipartisan, good-faith negotiations in committee.

This is horrific. Political violence is never acceptable. I join my colleagues in praying for Charlie Kirk and his loved ones.

54 days ago, the NDAA passed out of committee with bipartisan support, filled with provisions to better the lives of our servicemembers and improve our military readiness.

Our veterans have sacrificed everything to serve our country, the least we can do is provide them with the quality care they deserve.

More than 190,000 Marylanders rely on lower premiums from enhanced tax credits to access affordable health care – but these credits will expire at the end of 2025 because of President Trump’s Big Ugly Law.

Let's be clear: detaining people without probable cause at car washes, bus stops, and Home Deport parking lots based on racial stereotypes should never be the law of our land. We cannot let partisan politics come before the fundamental right to due process and liberty.

Last month, President Trump fired the BLS Commissioner, claiming they manipulated data to reflect poorly on his economic policies. Now – even after this partisan firing – the August Job Report has shown that the economy only added 22,000 jobs, marking the first job loss since the pandemic.
