To date, #TeamElfreth has closed over 2,300 constituent cases and returned over $3.2 million directly to constituents! One of those neighbors, Alison from Annapolis, had significant passport delays, but our team got to work and we were able to swiftly resolve this issue.

Yesterday I had one of the most profound experiences in 18 months as your Representative in Congress: traveling to Philadelphia with a bipartisan group of colleagues to be in the “room where it happened” 250 years to the day of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Republicans are celebrating the anniversary of their Big Ugly Bill while Americans are struggling to afford health care, housing, groceries, and more. In today’s edition of Sarah Explains It All, I’ll be breaking down what one year of the Big Ugly Law has actually meant for our neighbors.

ICYMI: We announced over $6 million in federal funding to support projects that will directly help our neighbors right here in Annapolis.

As someone still working to pay off my student loans, this isn’t abstract for me. Under the Big Ugly Law, the Department of Education is rolling out changes that limit access to certain federal loans and Pell Grants - cutting off educational opportunities for those who are not independently wealthy.

🇺🇸 Our nation was founded on the radical idea that we could democratically elect our leaders – but for this great experiment to continue for another 250 years, we need our young people to continue leaning in and voting.

Yesterday, #TeamMaryland celebrated a massive victory right here in Annapolis — delivering more than $6 million in federal funding to four incredible agencies to combat invasive species, improve public safety, expand community re-entry and rehabilitation resources, and more!

Birthright citizenship is a fundamental Constitutional right. It is not a privilege. Despite President Trump’s best efforts to nullify birthright citizenship, the Supreme Court stood firm and upheld the 14th Amendment.

The last time Congress passed online safety legislation, I was 10 years old. In the decades since, Big Tech and social media companies have grown exponentially as they put their bottom lines ahead of our kids’ safety. Families deserve better; they deserve laws that keep pace with this technology.

My team and I are here for you on your hardest days. Every day, we serve members of our community, like Andrew, who need help with federal agencies – whether it’s an issue with Social Security, immigration, or even tax returns.

Finally, some good news out of the Supreme Court! States can continue to count ballots after Election Day as long as they are deemed cast or postmarked by Election Day. This is how our Democratic process should work to make sure we count every vote – even the President's mail-in vote in Florida.

The very real consequences of the inaction of Republicans in Congress are impacting Marylanders. By refusing to extend the ACA tax credits & prioritize affordable healthcare, our neighbors are already paying the price through their premiums - & further inaction will cause a 13.7% increase next year.

After the Women at the Service Academies roundtable, I spoke with Dr. Jeannette Gaudry – a proud US Naval Academy Class of ‘98 graduate – about her takeaways from the conversation and how to keep this momentum for our future servicewomen. Here’s what she had to say:

50 years ago, for the first time in our country’s history, women were allowed to enroll in our military academies. Despite facing sexism, harassment, and prejudice, the first class of women cadets demonstrated unwavering bravery and courage – ultimately proving that women belong in the military.

Since President Trump’s Big Ugly Law enacted the largest cut to SNAP in history, over 4 million people have lost access to SNAP, including more than 800,000 children.

Sending your political opponents to prison is something authoritarians do – not democratically elected officials. My friend and colleague @replamonica.bsky.social is now facing 17 years in prison after demanding accountability for the Trump Administration’s reckless weaponization of ICE.

What happened after Congress passed one of the most consequential, bipartisan bills to lower housing costs in a generation? President Trump refused to sign it this morning – and the reason is worse than you think.

This is big news: In a rare bipartisan rebuke, the House and Senate have both passed a bipartisan resolution directing President Trump to end his war in Iran. We will continue to maintain the pressure on this Administration and make clear that the American people do not want this endless war.
