I started drawing again. It has been a while, so I’m a bit rusty.

I found pleasure in reading and joy in writing from early on. In college, I was a regular op-ed writer and even published several trade books before starting graduate school (a new edition of one of my Korean trade books is forthcoming next year).

Back to archival work. It means opening one box after another, flipping through every page to absorb the context and uncover fragments of evidence and narrative. Of course, there’s plenty of photo-taking. It’s labor-intensive, but I really missed it.

Long weekend reading in Napa. I also look forward to attending Eddie Ahn's book talk this week in San Francisco.

My APSA schedule is "a little" crazy. Still, I don’t want to miss the chance to connect with graduate students who share my research interests. I’ve made this a priority in the last few years (last year, I met with at least three students) because I benefited from similar support in my own journey.

Today, one of my papers got desk-rejected. The good thing about being in this game long enough is realizing this is totally normal. The paper just wasn’t a good fit, and the editors decided not to waste anyone’s time, including mine (!!!).

My copy finally arrived!

I still have no idea how this book will ultimately take shape, but I made some early progress: I wrote my first book proposal a couple of weeks ago, had a conversation with the book series editors this week, and drafted the first five pages of the introduction today.

Two panels that I co-organized have been accepted for the upcoming APPAM annual meeting. I'm very excited and grateful to the chairs, discussants, and panel presenters for their support of these panels. I also appreciate the committee members for reviewing and selecting our panels.
