Upper-body injury for Darcy Kuemper, per Kings. Won't return.

Not a good development for Kings as Darcy Kuemper has to leave game with 38.8 left in first period. Rangers forward Jonny Brodzinski backed into Kuemper's head on a play at the L.A. net. Wasn't like when Mikko Rantanen ran into him a few weeks ago but Kuemper missed some time after that.

Brandt Clarke sets up Adrian Kempe for a goal just 18 seconds in and, yeah, he needs to be unleashed for 25 minutes and know in a formal sense from the Kings coaches that he's their No. 1 defenseman. His ice time has gone up but they need to stop holding him back.

Drew Doughty won't play for Kings tonight due to illness. Jacob Moverare moves into the defensive mix on the third pair. Cody Ceci moves up to play with Mikey Anderson. Joel Edmundson and Brandt Clarke, their best pair this season, remain a constant.

Sharks fall, 4-1, to Lightning on second part of Sunshine State back-to-back. Tyler Toffoli got things started in the first period but that was it for San Jose. Brandon Hagel had two goals and assist for Tampa Bay, Anthony Cirelli and Jake Guentzel added goals. Yaroslav Askarov stopped 16 of 19.

It should be Jonathan Quick (NYR) and Darcy Kuemper (LAK) in the nets tonight at Crypto in what could be Quick's final game on the rink he starred for years and won two Stanley Cups in L.A.

There will be future Olympics for Carlsson but that would be a shame if he misses this one. Could be their 1C for tournament.

Tonight ends with the Sharks moving into third in the Pacific with a 4-1 win over the Panthers and the Ducks moving into the second wild card with a 5-3 victory over the Rangers. The Kraken lost, while the Kings were idle. Kings host Rangers tomorrow, Sharks play at Lightning.
