reminder to all my trans friends that a man who campaigned with this much support and love for us just destroyed the most machine politician to ever exist in spite of all odds. turns out vocally caring about us is a winning strategy!!

I don’t normally photograph people, but I’m trying to get better at that. My friend and partner and road trip buddy, @waywardbun.bsky.social, has been a good subject for me to practice with. It helps that I think they’re adorable, and that they also love to drive for hours to photograph industries.

I was asked for a statement for this @nytimes.com story about X gender markers on passports. My statement is: the story of how anti-trans sentiment became so powerful in the United States over the last year is a story for which the New York Times needs to take responsibility.

This is a small photo set from the Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine in Ashland Pennsylvania. I probably should have pulled out my DSLR for this, but my phone performed surprisingly well even with the low light motion blur shots. (Thankfully that red hat is not *The* Red Hat, but it’s still a bad look.)

Most of the power authoritarians have is freely given. We should not comply with them in advance. Trump is far weaker than he looks. So is the GOP. We should draw them out, drain them at every opportunity, and fight for people’s wellbeing at every turn. We have been sent here to fight for people.

I don't drive school busses, but I do drive large trucks, often in Boston. Especially as we see efforts to switch to electric busses, the long-hood school bus needs to go. I switch between cab-over and long nose trucks regularly, and the cab-overs make a world of difference for visibility.

I finally got the chance to get underneath a truss-style power line pylon in Manchester Connecticut. This feels like a classic type of photo to me, and I’m glad to finally have my own versions of this shot.

Here’s a recent photo set from the MBTA Red Line and Amtrak coach yards in Boston.

An MBTA “commuter” train approaches Worcester Union Station. It’s nice being able to use chainlink fence as a framing element rather than cursing it, like most railfans do.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE. This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined. It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

Just because previous administrations didn't actively go to the extremes the current one is doesn't mean they didn't help build the path to it.

Well, I see another Pittsburgh area (Ross Township) bridge closed because of decay. Can’t be much older than about 1987: I remember when the freeway it spans opened. Anyway, now the failing bridges are even younger than I am. That’s depressing.

Despite folks saying the anniversary was a few days ago, the famous Nazi book burning outside the Hirschfeld-run institute that treated queer and trans folks took place on May 10, 1933. The building had been sacked 4 days earlier. 40 years before I was born, and we seem headed this way again.
