Ever felt crippling doubt in your ability as a storyteller while revising/editing your first draft? Because I'm experiencing that right now. That feeling of, what if I suck at this?

I will say, as I grow more and more picky with recent movies, I'm exploring older movies now. Stuff from the 90s, 80s, 70s, 60s, 50s-- things I never got around to watching, now's a good time to do that since most of the new stuff doesn't really work for me.

I can't stop thinking about how awful the new Fantastic Four movie is. Damn. It made me want to revisit the Tim Story movies. They're not good, but at least those movies have heart. Man, fuck this garbage. While narratively and technically more competent, this one is as bad as Josh Trank's movie.

Now that I've been writing like crazy these past couple of months, I have been drinking a lot less. Like my brain found a new drug to get addicted to, and I just realized, I haven't had a drop of alcohol in over a week. As a result, I've been sleeping a lot better lately.

Ok, I don't know if it's just that my patience is running low today, but I found the new Fantastic Four movie to be incredibly, incredibly annoying. I need to watch something else immediately. Ugh.

I think the only movies I've liked from Disney recently are THE AMATEUR and KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, and I already have both on blu-ray. Well, there's KILLER OF KILLERS, too. I hope it gets a physical release like PREY did. Until then, I have a digital copy loaded on an external drive.

Torrenting the stuff you want to watch from them (with a VPN, of course), and then buying the blu-ray/4K of the stuff you want to keep in your collection sounds like the way to go.

Rewriting will be fun, because writing the first draft allowed me to find my characters' voices-- which I hadn't really figured out when I did the outline. And now that I know my characters better, I can enhance their personalities in this rewrite. And I'm excited about that.

Ok, at 535 pages, with the ending coming up, I feel I'm ready to start editing/rewriting this first draft. I keep remember what someone said to me, about the first draft being merely the scaffolding of a novel. So, here we go.

I'm still struggling with Shout's 4K release of HARD BOILED being like $70 and coming in a big chunky box that I don't need. Like, I don't need all that. Just give me the movie in 4K, in a regular case, for $29.99. Like, why are we not given that option?

Ok, the upcoming ANACONDA looks amazing. This may be the first Anaconda sequel/reboot I'm interested in. I only saw the... second movie, I think? THE SECRET OF THE MAGIC PISTACHIOS or whatever the fuck it was called, and I stopped there. But this? As a fan of the 1997 original, I'm in!

And now that I'm thinking about TIMECOP, let me just say how much I love Mark Isham's score. The recurring saxophone and piano throughout the movie. It has this warmth that is very much a product of its time, and it always manages to make me feel nostalgic for those days (1994). Every time.

So I was eager to get this in 4K, but... what do you mean no special features are included, @shoutstudios.bsky.social? None? That's disappointing. I mean, I'm still going to buy it because I love the movie, but come on!

Robert Redford was great in everything, but SPY GAME and SNEAKERS are two of my favorite movies of all time. I've watched them hundreds of times, and the sound and texture of his voice is forever imprinted on my mind. Damn, what a legend! Rest in peace, sir, thank you for everything!

I will never forgive Netflix for canceling ARCHIVE 81 after one season. That series fucking ruled, and you guys know I'm not a TV person, but this was amazing.

I know recency bias is a thing, but I just didn't expect to be so moved by BRING HER BACK. Surprise, surprise. I may have just found one of my Top 10 movies this year.

BRING HER BACK, on the other hand... holy shit, I loved it! It wrecked me, because of my own complicated relationship with grief. The Philippou brothers go a bit wild with the body horror, which I often find off putting, but here it feels earned. And I'm already obsessed with Cornel Wilczek's score.

Yeah, it grieves me to say WEAPONS is not for me. Like Zach Cregger's previous movie, BARBARIAN, there are some ideas in this that I thought were interesting but... no. Plus, honestly, at this point, Josh Brolin bores me.
