Just came back from a week at Project Proclaim’s preaching camp held at Silver Lake Camp & Retreat Center in Connecticut. It was an incredibly deep and timely gathering for proclaimers of all stripes for the progressive church under American authoritarianism.

It is a gorgeous day and I'm working outside on the porch. Smells like spring in the country. 💩🌹

This Holy Week, many in America feel the story anew: Spies among us. Money as religion. A plea to prioritize the poor and love our neighbors, & welcome anyone to the table. Betrayal from those near. A mock trial & ongoing humiliation from those with authority. State sanctioned public murder.

Watch us waking up. Again. Re-membering what our ancestors knew.

I had the REAL pleasure of hearing 5 different preaching students delivering messages across a theological spectrum, committed to proclaiming the Gospel. Listening and preaching across difference in itself is a radical act.

I’m Holding a sleeping toddler who doesn’t cuddle me anymore like when a baby. My heart is full, and wavering. There is no joy without sorrow, and my grief makes the love echo that much stronger.

Christians, if you don't know where to start, here's some words: YOU are welcome here. As I Christian, I know we were made in the image of God. ALL of us. or: Jesus begs us to feed the hungry, level the playing field, share the resources, free the prisoner. What would it be like if ...we did that?

You think our churches are dying?! NO. They are transforming. NOW is the time, beloveds. Gather your shards of hope, gather the message you've carried this far for your children and children's children, and PROCLAIM the Gospel.

I am having more and more conversations that give me hope that folks are starting to wake up. With a nurse who is spending her lunch breaks explaining The Horrors to co-workers. With a stranger in the Costco parking lot who was vocally grateful for my bumper sticker. A shift is happening.

Have you guys seen that My Little Pony show on Netflix? Anyway it’s awful. So many jealous girl tropes, casual racism (pony-ism?!), colonization… the whole bit. (Heh. Bit.Get it?!) Anyway I wanted the kid to see a show that was mostly girls and that one was an easy click. (I have Regrets). 1/?

what gives me hope? Well. it depends. Working on organizing preachers and supporting the work to preach for THIS ERA given..... ALL OF THIS..... is a *HUGE* place of hope. One thing we can do is gather in May, learn directly from each other and amazing teachers/preachers, and organize. Join!

I snuggle my toddler to sleep. This is *everything* I feel so incredibly grateful. May ALL children feel so loved and secure. May ALL parents have the circumstances to thrive in loving them. And may we work together to make it so.

It’s hard to stay put, to rest. Then I get to thinking. Then I get to over thinking. Then I get to circular thinking. Distorting these patterns is hard hard doing … and.. I know, necessary for the ongoing resilience.

It’s been a year of a week. On top of all of ….this…. what we call “the daycare blend” is really hanging in— at least for me and the kid. So. Many. tissues. And head fog.

It’s important to know that a lot of productive activity is happening in person and offline, too. Not all of it can be broadcast online, but we’ve had hundreds of people showing up to our trainings, mobilizations, and more. Keep going. Tyranny is eroded by a sea of small acts. Everything matters.

On social media, several Navajo Nation tribal members say they have had their nationality questioned. The accounts are not verified but Navajos who live off the reservation say they are concerned about being swept up in raids by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

If one member suffers, all suffer Together.

Sunday is a pause point. I’ll go to the service, find comfort in the rituals, check in on those who are church community and also scared, and sing the hymns. All that feels important. In each reading, hymn, or prayer: What message of Faith from those who have come before is echoed for us now?

we will keep track of all the changes, fight in every way we can, and deepen into our visions. but find your grief practice. so many people are going to suffer and die in so many unnecessary ways in the short term because of the decisions and moves being made. learn to feel your grief as we go.

Every morning we do our best. The toddler gets food and -yes- we do screen time. So anyway today I find hope in The Tiny Chef show which is just brilliant. (RuPaul you magical genius) Also, Jesus Christ do we need the artists now. Lordt.

Speaking truth to power doesn’t have to look or sound a certain way, it just has to be in our authentic voice, following our Grace-filled and merciful God.

Of all the things I cherish about Bishop Budde, I keep thinking about how gentle + feminine she is when speaking. So many of us lady clergy were told to code our public speaking to be more masculine — deeper, booming, assertive. While not inherently bad things, her preaching “like a girl”? Tears.

For me- Today is about joy sharing and hoarding and cultivating. Creating experiences that help us sustain for the world building / world shaping work ahead.

Yall my dog is OLD. Stinky, seizures, old dog noises, the lot. Like the rest of us, when 2020 hit, he got anxious and never stopped being anxious. He’s a good boy. Aging. Cranky. (I mean same).

The other thing I never thought I’d say: Y’all. I believe in evil. In hell. I would have thought all humanity is redeemable. But some of these testimonies… How you gon’ be an oligarch and profit off of the labor of the people and dehumanize them and reach the kindom of God?! No. Try again.

The question I come home with is still: what is my thread? How do I hold pieces of this experience, and the work of those that came before, in Montgomery and Selma, AL in mind and awareness from here? I’ll be thinking and praying.

The fact that 30 percent of the people fighting fires in California right now are incarcerated should be deeply unsettling for all of us. Prisons are what @prisonculture.bsky.social calls "death-making" institutions, and forcing these folks to face uncontrollable fires embodies that.

Traveling to Selma, today. Lord we know Civil Rights ain’t arrived. Help us carry that strength even beyond our borders. It’s worth our lives.

Traveling this week with dear colleagues to ground our work for the year(s) ahead in the history and lessons of those who have gone before, and the ongoing movements and struggle for a world where all people are free, have enough. Heading to Montgomery, AL.

In other news my toddler just went to Church school alone— without me. Let’s see how long this lasts.

New year goal: Bold proclamation. I’m committed to telling the story as to why faith matters in the ongoing multigenerational struggle for liberation. I’m not committed to the methodology though! So I want to try different things this year. ✨

Liminal time: cleaning, focusing, resting, playing. Walking in the woods. Staying attentive. Completely burning a day. Eating great food. Eating total processed sugar foods. Zoning out. Letting impulse win. All of that. What do you hold in this space between, approaching the next year?
