Idea going around: Democratic leadership could ASAP name an "alternate" HHS secretary--someone to provide public updates and health information. And "shadow" leaders for other depts too, with press conferences, policy initiatives, budgets, speeches.

FEMA HQ is actively trying to convince the WH / DOGE that we should be exempt from the probationary RIF due to the "public safety" and "national security" provisions. That's why other agencies have already fired probies and FEMA has not. If we are not found to be exempt, RIFs will go into effect.

Across the government, probationary employees and Schedule A workers—including individuals with severe physical, psychiatric, or intellectual disabilities, as well as veterans—are being let go.
