More on the news from #UNOC3 •⁠ ⁠186,000 km² will be reserved for artisanal fishing out to 15 miles around each island. •⁠ ⁠A one-year extension is granted to reach an agreement with industrial fishermen, with a view to reinforcing protection in the Marquesas and Austral islands by June 8, 2026.

News from #UNOC3: The entire exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of French Polynesia - 5 million km² - will be converted into a marine protected area (MPA), making it the largest MPA in the world. •⁠ ⁠1.1 million km² will be placed under strong protection status, equivalent to IUCN category 2
