Unsolicited writing advice, no. 345: If your dialogue contains more details on *how* something is spoken, rather than *what* was said, then it probably isn’t meaningful enough. Either your character says “no”, OR they shake their head. No one needs both.

I've not read the book, but I thought The Salt Path was a good film, mostly because of the excellent leads. BUT, in one scene, the couple see a host of remarkably tame rabbits - of the wrong variety to be wild in the UK. Surely they could have devised a way to show the correct rabbits? Like these:
