project updates: OUTFALL → i ended up scrapping the very first section and adding in a new chapter at the beginning SWBB (wip) → first draft done at an absurd wc, so i'm letting it sit before going back to revise TPD (new wip!) → outlined, so i'll start the first draft this month ;-) keeping busy!

been a bit since i've been here, but i'm popping in to say happy pride month! 🌈💗 hope everyone has a lovely start to june! :-)

happy monday, #queerwriters !! against all odds, i finished my first draft last week. admittedly it took until saturday evening... LOL this week, i want to explore another wip idea & do another batch of queries (since i took a bit of a break) !!

i have this problem where i'm ~70% done with a project/wip/etc and then get an idea for something else, which of course my brain believes is sooo much better and more interesting (╥﹏╥) be quiet brain! let me work in peace! we'll get to that other thing later!

i've been in denial, but there’s no way i'm finishing my draft LOL skimming through it rn and there a lot more holes and missing scenes than i realized... might actually end up being my goal for next week :'-) still making decent progress though!

it's a bit bizarre to go from writing romance almost exclusively → thrillers (although there is a platonic-verging-on-romantic situation hehe 👀) working on this horrormance wip is bringing back a lot of tropes i missed LOL & the wip i have planned for later.. well. i love love, so it'll be fun! ;]

if it wasn't obvious this also applies to writing. in fact i think the concept of "you'll probably hate your first draft" might be essential to writing alongside the concept of a piece never being "finished" art is evolution. let it grow in your hands

dare i say to finish my wip's first draft...? sure! we aim high! :-D also—quest pit!! made my things ahead of time to spare myself the stress, and i'm looking forward to seeing other people's posts and getting motivated + inspired by everyone (and... maybe send out a couple of queries? we shall see)

just saw thunderbolts (!!!) and i'm not going to say yelena's character arc reminded me a LOT of minyoung's, but also... 🙈😳

for my wip—i've described it as hannibal x jennifer's body before, so i'll add: PEARL x THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER x PARASITE the love interest would see it as HEATHERS (the movie, not the musical) fmc's freakiness is cute at first but then... not exactly silly goofy later full reasons tbd LOL

these aren't recent, but OUTFALL would be great for people who like ↓ THE CONJURING (vibes + freaky hauntings) + IT FOLLOWS (sense of dread + fmc's paranoia) x IT: CHAPTER TWO (return to hometown + facing childhood trauma) bonus: i wrote a lot while listening to "already gone" by sleeping at last!

minyoung loooves going to some sort of crowded park to sit in the grass and people watch. lots of open air + she's never alone from my wip: i imagine her as an avid birdwatcher, and also someone who would 100% chase butterflies (only when she's close to home/miles away from anyone else) #questpit

may goals: 🪦 OUTFALL: querying 🪚 SWBB: finish 1st draft, then start (and hopefully finish) 1st round of edits. current wc: 85,852 → goal is to keep it at 80-90k 📝 in general: continuing consistency (hah) + being intentional w ambitious/positive mindset! (also.. plan another wip...? 😳😳 IDK AHHH)

hit with the realization that this wip's writing style is sooo unlike me... not necessarily in a bad way, but in retrospect it's why i've been struggling to add scenes in :-0 not sure how this even happened LOL. but we ride!!! all will be well in the second draft 🫡

spent the better part of the month working on non-wip related creative projects, and ended up being super productive! i'll be carrying that momentum with me and bringing renewed excitement to work on my wip :-D hope everyone has a great start to their week!

realizing my wip's 1st draft is going to end up /ridiculously/ long—somehow, it's already 82k? and i'm only 60-70% done??? compared to my main project, whose 1st draft was 50k... making the 2nd draft for this will def be a totally different process. very much anticipating it!! ૮⌯'ㅅ'⌯ა

minyoung can't stomach anything soup-based, but she'd willingly eat anything blended (e.g. a hamburger just chucked in a blender). no reason, she's just like that and from my wip: people are absolutely food. only as a treat, though ☆⌒(>ᴗ ∂)

spent time this morning rereading some of my favorite poems/quotes (compiled in my dear commonplace book!) there's just something so lovely about human expression. the specifities that make us unique, and the way they bound us together all the same... having a lot of thoughts, feeling a lot of joy

the mc from my wip would be terrible !! namely because she would inadvertently come off as Super creepy—she would rarely leave the room and just /constantly/ stare. also a terrible conversationalist, so if she tries to explain herself, she just makes herself sound even weirder

slightly belated april goals :-) honestly i just want to continue the work from march! i'm actually quite busy preparing bday presents for my sister, so for this month, i'm going to prioritize making Strategic progress to maximize my time and energy (and make the most of all my spreadsheets!)

It's so important right now to give yourself dumb little reasons to keep going. You haven't had the best sandwich you've ever tasted. You haven't laughed the hardest you've ever laughed. You haven't gotten the best hug you've ever felt. I know these things feel small but that's why they help me.

wishing everyone a saturday full of excitement + productivity, even if that means a day of rest! these days i've been feeling a bit low, but i'm reminding myself of how many reasons there are for me to chase what i want and believe in myself as i do it! and there's still half of march left!!!

having an almost impressively unproductive day... (｡•́︿•̀｡) must remind myself that every day alive is a day to celebrate! will try to get a bit of writing work done, but only while motivated by joy of what i do (not shame or guilt)
