IMO, everyone should get a university degree or travel abroad for at least a year. (Community college in the US doesn't count—it's the equivalent of high school everywhere else.) We only really appreciate how great we have it when we see others who don't. Empathy is a necessary part of democracy.

People don't realize they could become sick, poor, & marginalized at any time. It takes one car accident. When will people learn that in order for society to progress, ALL of its members must progress, especially the lowest? Because if everybody doesn't matter, then nobody really does.

They need more education about what a fucking privilege it is to live in a country where we vote for our government. Perhaps a year spent living abroad would help a lot of people.
