NH is 8th in per-pupil spending because education is expensive in the Northeast, something thatās clear in the chart. Yes, per-pupil spending in public schools is less than in private schools. Make private schools provide transportation and special education, then run the numbers again.

School vouchers transfer wealth to those who are already sending their kids to private schools, leaving the rest to subsidize them. Public schools keep the fixed costs and lose state money. You pay the difference in your property tax bill.

This is a great example of where New Hampshire could earn revenue to fund infrastructure improvements. Instead, weāll cut financial aid to municipalities because, again, the answer is āno thanksā to money that doesnāt come from property taxes. NH drivers pay more for tolls in MA and ME.

Iām no fan of an income tax, but this is bad framing. If the state costs $100 to run, the money has to come from taxes. Sources include business profits tax, interests and dividends, and business enterprise tax. The state cut them. Forcing all taxes on property owners isnāt āaffordable.ā

Tabling the bill **is** a victory for public schools (which speaks to the billās intent). When parents can send their students anywhere, big schools gain through amenities possible by their scale. Small schools are stuck with the fixed costs, then close. Where do the remaining kids go?

NH taxpayers may disagree on the āLOL.ā The Fed held rate cuts due to inflation. Gas inflation is due to Iran. Businesses are getting refunds ā inflation passed to consumers ā because they overpaid on goods due to tariffs. Comparing unforced errors to a pandemic is a bad faith argument.

The āfree speech,ā āLive Free or Dieā crowd wants the state to define what acceptable speech is and what municipalities can allow students to read. Seems that the basis for this is that Amazon, a private company, doesnāt have its speech compelled to sell a racist book.

Rich or poor, every child gets access to public education. Eliminating public schools would reserve education for kids with rich parents. Cutting education funding to municipalities means youāll pay higher property taxes. Think about that when you vote in November, or choose high taxes.
