This a big deal: "China’s carbon dioxide emissions have been flat or falling for 18 months" China's economy has grown by ~5% in the last year, so this comprehensively debunks the idea (again) that emissions are tied to growth. So yes, faster progress needed, but this is how you turn the corner.

i don't want to "do" anything with my life. i want to share making meals for my people. i want to nourish little sprouts into harvests. i want to care for the children of my best friends as though they are my own. i want to name the trees around me and learn the old names they gave they themselves.

We tried to place this story - very expensive polling, the first of its kind, strong quantitative data about what trans people feel about Britain: bluntly there is no better way to tell the story - with the BBC but it said it was "too weak". But it will pick up any old piece of transhating garbage.

There's a new
#CSS
Working Group poll to get feedback on different names for the infamous 'Pinterest' layout. - Since it uses many of the grid-* properties, `grid` will be in the name somewhere - We don't use metaphors in CSS names, so `masonry` is not listed here

I don't like posting this sort of stuff online but I am so pissed at the tech companies for designing a world where I can't talk to my daughter on her 7th birthday over the phone because she's too distracted to speak or even hear me.

I’d never tell anyone they MUST* understand JavaScript to work on the web, but I will make the case that one SHOULD*. To understand JavaScript is to know the boundaries of how users can interact with your medium — any role is improved by that.

"How much would you risk to be in its presence?" That phrase—*to be in its presence*. It hits me. It's more than proximity. More than hearing or seeing. Not possible when just passing through. Oh, how we need presence right now.

Any chance the "Require ALT text before posting could be made "on" by default? Do you know who in the team could help with that? Would be a big accessibility win. Anecdotally I've seen a lot of people posting in support of this idea or not realising the setting was there.
