It was buckets full of smiles and sunshine when I dropped by Shifra Homes in Burlington recently to meet moms and their babies. Shifra is a maternity residence and shelter home, providing support, dignity and empowerment for young pregnant women to lead healthy successful lives.

Today we raised the flag and proclaimed June 2026 as Aphasia Awareness Month in Burlington. Approximately one in three individuals who have a stroke develop aphasia, is a loss of language. It often requires months of speech therapy to recover words.
