This residential street has a well documented history of drivers who speed, ignore pedestrians in crosswalks & fly through stop signs. @cityofnorthvan.bsky.social knows it’s a problem. This easily ignored sign is the last resort for a city that refuses to make the changes which make streets safer.

Milestone reached during this morning’s commute.

A good frame for this engineering profession incompetence. That will get their attention & force some defence of the profession which might open conversation up further. I am at a loss for anything else because no amount of blood sacrifice, toddler or old or middle, seems to change anything.

Curious if the North Shore News is following up with CNV traffic engineers, mayor and council and asking hard questions about why this continues to happen on our roads when we know full well proper road design with safe, separate biking infrastructure would prevent this from continuing to happen.

We’re about to get pay parking in my neighbourhood, which is a good thing. I very much doubt the revenue will be used to make walking and biking safer in my neighbourhood. It’ll likely go towards another MUP which prioritizes recreational riding over transportation and utility riding.

Another Saturday morning, another illegally parked fire truck. It seems @dnv.org doesn’t care. It’s disappointing that first responders park in such a way that blocks visibility of crosswalks, endangering pedestrians. Surely they’ve responded to calls which are a result of this very behaviour.

The number of illegal u-turns I see each day is alarming. Even more so is the number where the driver is fully aware that they are forcing other road users to quickly react and take evasive action while performing the maneuver. Another result of zero traffic enforcement and no consequences.

@cityofnorthvan.bsky.social it kind of sucks that I can’t ride my bike to the shipyards via a quiet, residential street (Mahon) without being bullied by an impatient SUV driver on a Saturday morning. Despite signage indicating it’s a bike friendly route, Chesterfield is even worse. Can you fix this?

North Vancouver's Brewery Row loses a mainstay.

This is who we design safe streets for. …and 3-year olds learning to ride. …and middle-aged commuters. …kids going to school or sports. Anyone and everyone benefits from a safer street where bikes (even e-bikes) are welcome.

But politicians like Mike Klassen promised a new bike lane by the end of summer 2023. ABC didn't run on removing the lane, so hopefully they're all held to account during the next election and sent packing.

Too many cyclists are unaware of the impact of their poorly adjusted and too bright headlights on oncoming traffic (pedestrians, the people on bikes and even drivers). It only takes a moment to adjust a light to illuminate the road, rather than blind the people in front of you.

How many more times does this have to happen before our local governments take real action instead of just giving lip service to #visionzero?

Tomorrow is the first day of school and my bike commute will become exponentially more dangerous thanks to all the parents rushing their kids to and from school, ignoring everything and everyone on the other side of the windscreen.

I’m a fan of crackers as a delivery method for cheeses, spreads, etc. and have mourned the loss of stoned wheat thins as well as Jacob’s cream crackers from local shelves. Found a replacement for the cream crackers from Newfoundland. They’re good, so I hope they don’t disappear.

Parking like this involves a decision making process where the driver consciously breaks rules to achieve his goal; driving the wrong way to back into a parking stall clearly designed for nose in parking, and then completely blocking the sidewalk with his truck, then walking away. Don’t hire them.

I’m seeing more and more drivers ignoring pedestrians in crosswalks, lane and driveway approaches to the point where folks are forced to run out of the way. How many more deaths are needed to fix it?

Also need dedicated transit lanes along Lonsdale, where traveling by bus from the quay to 23rd can take 1/2 hour or more.

If you don't believe it, come to my street every weekday afternoon between 2:30 and 3:30 to watch the surge in traffic and the congestion that results from all these parents chauffeuring their precious cargo. The worst part is they all look stressed and anxious, not ideal for safe driving.

There seems to be trend in @cityofnorthvan.bsky.social for churches to hold their Sunday services in our public parks. This happened in two separate parks I went to today. One of them was amplified, so there was no ignoring it.Does the city issue permits allowing this?

This is the good kind of peer pressure that we need more of.

I’ve been asking the @cityofnorthvan.bsky.social for speed bumps in our lane to slow speeders for ages. One year the city sent out a letter to neighbours asking if they’d support this. Enough ignored or opposed it so it went nowhere. It seems those same neighbours have discovered tactical urbanism.

Hey @cityofnorthvan.bsky.social what happened to you promoting active transportation and becoming Canada's "healthiest city"? After years of promoting this idea, we STILL can't safely bike to grocery stores or other shops and services on dedicated biking networks like below! Why not?
