This is a simple thing, but the way this phone call from UNCANNY X-MEN #185 is depicted is pretty brilliant, actually.

And here’s a lil timelapse of the process of painting this. I love Procreate! It’s helping me practice my in-head visualization. It’s not as concretely valuable as using references (please do!) but I love the experience of rendering the surfaces in my head to really comprehend the lighting.

More development over the underpainting! I’m loving how this is coming out. Painting on a screen surfaces makes a huge difference painting confidently. Almost makes me wonder how I worked all this time without it. 🤔🤔🤔🤔 Feel free to ask any questions about my process so far!

Fiddling around with Procreate and painting Kenpachi Zaraki, my favorite Soul Society Captain in Bleach. Dude was straight to the point and dodged the monologue.

Very pleasantly surprises by “The Book of Clarence.” Life’s made better with knowledge and some kind of faith.

Fun lil snake piece I did a coupla years ago. I start all my sketchbook works with ink directly, but with this one I started with the color marker. It was a fun exercise to visualize the bends and overlaps of the serpent before rooting them in with ink.

Self portrait I did waaaaaaay back. Started with ink on paper and colored digitally. It was fun trying to replicate those old comic weird machine shapes.

Halt and Ketch Fire Neat lil 90s Ghost Rider piece I put together while out and about. Javier Saltares and Mark Texeira lit a fire under me with their incredible pencil and inking that felt both raw and realistic.

A Count Orlock painting I’m working on from memory! Good exercise in rendering lighting around form and shape. Weirdly, light is sort of like liquid with how it groups on things.

Finally finished watching Crashing all the way through after starting season one when it aired and loved it. It’s such a brutally honest but compassionate slice of life show. It felt good to see somebody dealing with being a late bloomer like I did. 😅

Marvel VS Capcom fanart of ole webhead and winghead I did earlier this year! I like when Spider-Man and Morrigan’s chemistry is more comedic than anything.
