★★★★½ review of Marsupilami (2026) • Popfeed I know this is a very unpopular view and that all films absolutely must be worthy, Orson Welles-type efforts but there is a place for silly films that make you laugh and take you out of the miserable reality of impending armageddon in which we currently live. So, before we wander slowly into the inevitable nuclear wasteland, what better thing to do than watch another excellent outing for Philippe Lacheau, Jamel Debbouse, Élodie Fonta, Jean Reno and Tarek Boudali. Silly slapstick and visuals with plenty of gags that will go over the heads of kids, the story is not over-complicated. It's nothing that will challenge the brain but why should it? The story is a bloke is blackmailed into going to get a package from South America and smuggle it back to France. It contains an egg which hatches and, yes, you guessed it, the thing that hatches out is the famed and rare Marsupilami. Other blokes have to try to capture it for various reasons. Hilarity ensues. A dog ends up with a pubic wig. Did I mention that it's mainly set on a cruise liner? Look, Stanley Kubrick obsessives won't like it. Fine. It's silly fun - and maybe the world could do with a bit more of that.
