Only a few weeks left before our Greenland White-fronts head back north. Another year, and another decrease in our wintering numbers, with only 3 juvenile birds observed amongst the 200+ flock. Here’s hoping they have a more productive 2025 breeding season. 🤞

Cackling Goose here at

The Oa earlier in the week, and our first spring migrant back in the form of a Lesser Black-backed Gull. Lapwing, Curlew, and Oystercatcher all made a return to site towards the end of the week.

Well, I wasn’t expecting to see a Great Egret at Kinnabus today. A new site species for me, and who doesn’t love abit of Ardeidae action.

The Oa. A brief moment of absence allowed me a rapid opportunity to move a camera trap from a nearby wader scrape and onto the goose kill.

It’s CHEGD season here at RSPB The Oa. The abundance and diversity of CHEGD fungi are a really fantastic indicator of the current health and condition of our unimproved coastal grasslands.
