We're okay-ish with air quality Monday morning. Lingering wildfire smoke plus ground-level ozone make it unhealthy for sensitive groups in general today. When I stepped back outside around 7, I wasn't able to smell any smoke, and forecast data show it shouldn't be a big issue like on Friday. #ohwx

The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) has a detailed record of poor air quality days in Columbus over the past 10 years. 2023 had a notable smoke event with an air quality index approaching 200, but this one blows that one out of the water with numbers in the 500s. (1/2)

Air quality has dropped to "very unhealthy" to "hazardous" as of 3 a.m. You can immediately smell it; it's difficult to breathe in. Stay indoors if you can. If you're driving, use your car's "recirculate" button - it's the car with a looping arrow. Smoke is also reducing visibility. #ohwx

Want to see how smoke affects temperatures without seeing any temperatures? Away from the thicker smoke, enough sun came through to warm up the ground to create cumulus clouds (and even storms). But areas with thicker smoke weren't as warm, and so those puffy clouds didn't form.

Northern Ohio remains in "hazardous"-level air quality this afternoon. The Air Quality Alert for the Columbus metro has been extended into Friday for "Unhealthy" levels. Air quality is forecast to reach 179. For reference, Toledo and Cleveland are over 600. 😬

Increased emissions from wildfires in the past decade have reversed earlier progress made in decreasing US surface-level ozone pollution, a new analysis finds.

One to two feet of rain has fallen in the past couple of days across parts of Texas west of San Antonio... affecting the same spots that had catastrophic flash flooding just a year ago. At one river gauge, the Guadalupe River rose an astounding 32 feet in four hours early Thursday.

"The river gauge at Center Point has risen 32 feet in 4 hours and is expected to reach a crest similar to July 4, 2025 catastrophic river flood."

The clouds from the earlier rain in southern Ohio are pulling away, so a lot of us will see quite a bit of sun the rest of the morning! It'll take longer to clear out the farther southeast you are. Those who had rain this morning may have another quick round around lunchtime. #ohwx
