By the time I was really watching TV in the late 2000's, I think I missed out on Toonami. I got my first real taste of the DBZ hype when Kai started airing on Nicktoons, for instance. I would discover Toonami in the early 2010s, when I found videos of old promos and bumpers (TOM 1 era in specific)
