My sister volunteers in a search and rescue organisation in a rural area in the SW. She broke down earlier this week in a remote, rural location. She phoned the @TheRAC_UK for help and got an automated answering menu.... /1

It wanted the postcode - in rural area that’s a nonsense because a postcode covers a vaster area than in cities. And she couldn't access internet to get the information - poor signal, whatever the mobile phone companies might claim.... /2

There was no way of speaking to someone who could prioritise a lone female needing help.She carries full winter gear, and could wrap warmly but others don't. It was a cold night; others might not have been so well prepared..../3

She broke down after 6pm and when, through family, she was able to connect with @TheRAC_UK she was told that help would reach her at about 4 am, some 10 hours later!!!.../4

.....but luckily she didn't have to in the end, because her family rescued her and eventually she limped home in the car around midnight. Others might not be so lucky..... /5

Her experience isn't at all reassuring. It suggests that a cheap, automated answering service is more important than the safety of potentially vulnerable @TheRAC_UK members...../6

So, @TheRAC_UK why don't you use @what3words too as it's accurate to 3 metres sq.? /7
