An excellent thread with measurements of radio recombination lines with the historic Dwingeloo radio telescope. These are the first such measurements since the restoration of the telescope.

Just listening to the Voyager 1 signal on a Wednesday evening. More than 23 light hours away (25 billion km). Of course with the historic @radiotelescoop.bsky.social!

After fixing this mistake, the frequency difference is on the order of 1 Hz. This is about 0.7 ppb, so it is within the accuracy that we could expect for the GPSDO at Bochum. So mystery solved!

The signal can be detected both in the Dwingeloo and Stockert 25 m radio telescopes, but the performance of Dwingeloo is poorer. The observed Doppler spread is on the order of ±0.75 Hz, which is a bit less than the spread model I made. Read more: destevez.net/2025/04/anal...

A bit late, but here is some additional analysis of the Earth-Venus-Earth radar experiments with @radiotelescoop.bsky.social from March 22nd, 2025. It takes the 4 recordings at the Dwingeloo and Stockert telescopes and searches in Doppler frequency and Doppler rates for the radar reflections.

The data we collected during our successful Earth-Venus-Earth experiment is now available at data.camras.nl/venus/, including an example notebook by @telkamp.eu showing how the reflection of our signal off the surface of Venus can be detected in this data.

We hebben vandaag de gedeeltelijke #zonsverduistering ook met de radiotelescoop waargenomen. De periode dat de radioruis van de zon afnam doordat de maan ervoor zat, was iets langer dan de optische eclips. Dat komt doordat de radiogolven van de zon ook uit de corona rondom de zon komen.

For the second time this week, the @radiotelescoop.bsky.social had a front row seat on a lunar landing attempt. This time by @intuitivemachines.bsky.social #IM-2 lunar lander. We listed to Doppler effect on the S-band signals at 2210.6MHz during its successful descent to the lunar surface.

As everyone else, we are curious about the status of @intuitivemachines.bsky.social's #IM2 Moon lander. The raw data which we recorded during our livestream is available at data.camras.nl/im2/ , we will put more data there as we extract it from the raw recordings.

New blog post: BGM-1 Doppler during the lunar landing. Some quick plots of the Doppler of @firefly-aerospace.bsky.social's lander as received by the @amsat-dl.org and @radiotelescoop.bsky.social groundstations.

With @radiotelescoop.bsky.social we've observed the failed landings of Beresheet and Chandrayaan-2 in 2019 and the partially successful landings of SLIM and IM-1 last year. This is the first landing that appears to have gone by the book. Thanks to Tammo Jan Dijkema and @telkamp.eu for helping today.

The spacecraft #BGM1 is planned to land on the Moon this Sunday 2 March. We will try to track this landing with the Dwingeloo telescope; it will be the 5th Moon landing observed by us. As a preparation, we did a short lunchtime observation yesterday, and saw a nice Doppler curve.

The Spanish cubesat Uresat has finally deployed its antennas. Until it had, we were almost the only station that could receive it. We confirm that after antenna deployment, the signal is much stronger. Here's an FM snippet from yesterday's @satnogs.bsky.social pass: "EA1YO greeting from AO4URE".

Door rijp is de schotel van gaas momenteel even niet doorzichtig. Dat is geen probleem voor de ontvangst, wel voor windbelasting. Dus @helgavanleur.bsky.social graag eerst dooi, dan pas weer storm.

Testje voor de vrijdagochtend: we kunnen Blue Ghost Mission 1 (#BGM1) goed zien. Dit ruimtevaartuig is woensdag gelanceerd en moet begin maart landen op de maan.

De eerste observaties van 2025 zitten erop. We hebben metingen gedaan aan de 3kpc-arm, een van de binnenste spiraalarmen van de Melkweg, die in 1957 met de Dwingeloo telescoop werd ontdekt. Het originele artikel, in het Frans, staat op articles.adsabs.harvard.edu/full/1957CRA...

Met een stel Haagse scholieren hebben we gisteravond metingen gedaan aan waterstof in de Andromedanevel. Het is nu aan de scholieren om met deze resultaten een profielwerkstuk over donkere materie te schrijven. De meting duurde ca. 4 uur, we hebben tijdens de meting o.a. een potje Rummikub gespeeld.

Op zondag 22 december geven we rondleidingen in de radiotelescoop! Reserveer een plekje via www.camras.nl en kom overdag sterrenkijken. Bijvoorbeeld een pulsar of een quasar. Extra leuk in de winter: het centrum van de Melkweg is overdag waar te nemen.
