If you want to know what people mean when they say Democrats are "controlled opposition," rather than whipping votes against ICE funding, Hakeem Jeffries struck a deal with Republicans to allow Democrats to feign outrage at ICE while still funding the spending package.

It's fine and good to teach people their rights, but we also need to be making it very clear that the enemy *does not care about those rights* and *does not care about the law* and have them prepare accordingly.

Your friends across the aisle? Your colleagues? The members of a fascist party that has a secret police force? That has open Nazis in it?

There is no reason to separate the "real" or "worse" fascists in the Republican party from others. It is a fascist party, and any members are fascists by default. This is not a glib use of the term. The Republican party and its actions meet the definition using both the Eco and Britt frameworks

We could also argue that since the administration ignores the constitution, it isn't worth following anymore. Rather than making legal arguments for states not remitting taxes, just don't do it and provide protections to prevent the federal government from seizing it (state-run banks, for example)

People cannot be shamed into voting for collaborators. That trick is not going to work anymore. If things are just as bad with them in office as not in office, then we at least get to punish them for not voting. If they want votes, they will have to start adopting stances that people actually want

The tacit agreement to not discuss politics in American culture has been a disaster. We know why it's been that way (keep the peace with neighbors, acquaintances, co-workers, etc.) but it has been a disaster, as people with horrible politics have had their views go unchallenged
