"Vox In Excelso" is #StarfleetAcademy's first thoroughly EXCELLENT episode. I loved this depiction of the Klingons, and the new layers of world building confidently added to the mix. Equally balanced big picture broad strokes with intimate and impactful character moments. Top of the line #StarTrek.

While I thought “Vitus Reflux” was the least successful #StarfleetAcademy episode thus far, I ended up enjoying it in the end. Felt like the first half was a bit bumpy and leaned into tones that I’m still adapting to, but I appreciated the lessons and character growth driven home in the back half.

"Our Man Bashir" is a flashy stylistic flourish and so rooted in Bashir's core character values, laying key foundations for things to come, which makes it an essential episode. I can't get enough of the boisterous performances and the audacious commitment to the bit. Score: 4.0/5 #TrekRewatch5

"Resistance" portrays a horrifying and all too familiar fascistic society, while building a poignant and emotionally affecting center with Kate Mulgrew and Joel Grey's deeply felt performances. It's not especially briskly paced, but the dramatic punches land as intended. Score: 3.5/5 #TrekRewatch5

"The Sword of Kahless" is a little on the bombastic, unsubtle side for my liking, but there are charming elements mixed in here. John Colicos is delightfully big as usual, and I enjoy the early Worf/Jadzia chemistry. It's a bit much, but it wears its heart on its sleeve. Score: 2.0/5 #TrekRewatch5

"Maneuvers" is a tense and memorable thriller, built on the back of Seska's cunning and clever psychological combat with Chakotay. I think this features some of Beltran's best work of the series, while the exciting and cinematic visual style works to elevate the episode. Score: 4.0/5 #TrekRewatch5

My controversial #StarTrek opinion that I'm slowly coming to terms with... the numbers and individual episode scores don't lie. I really like the Kazon. They power a clever, ongoing storyline woven across two seasons, emphasizing strong character development for Janeway & Chakotay and Seska rules.

"Cold Fire" is a key entry, given the direct follow-up to "Caretaker", and the exploration of Kes' burgeoning abilities. The horror tones are reasonably effective, if a bit redundant to other surrounding episodes. Not stylistically distinctive, but undeniably important. Score: 2.5/5 #TrekRewatch5

"Starship Down" is bookended by action-heavy, bombastic sequences, but its beating heart is in the pressurized, revealing character interactions and tremendous use of the claustrophobic, underdog qualities of the Defiant. It's a great showcase for the entire ensemble. Score: 4.0/5 #TrekRewatch5

"Tattoo" uses flashback cinematic structure in a way that 90's era #StarTrek rarely attempts, which gives it a unique flair. However, the story struggles with flimsy, unconvincing and stereotypical characteristics. Flourishes of potential and success, but very uneven. Score: 2.0/5 #TrekRewatch5

I loved the first two episodes of #StarTrek #StarfleetAcademy! I thought the cast of characters were effectively dynamite, led by the fucking tremendously awesome Holly Hunter. Every bit the massive payoff her casting promised. Also so appreciated how unique and distinctive the two episodes were. 🖖

"Rejoined" is a heartfelt, deeply felt romantic drama, exploring fascinating new facets of Trill existence. Terry Farrell and Susanna Thompson have killer chemistry and Avery Brooks' sensitive, restrained direction gives the actors full ownership of the potent material. Score: 4.5/5 #TrekRewatch5

"Persistence of Vision" doesn't mine entirely fresh territory conceptually, but there are interesting science-fiction moments to give it just enough of its own flair. Some of the horror sequences are more impactful than others. It's a bit uneven and never totally gels. Score: 2.0/5 #TrekRewatch5

"Indiscretion" pairs Kira and Dukat to great effect, echoing the classic film "The Searchers". Big reveals with serious implications on broad, macro levels, as well as for the characters. In classic #DS9 fashion, the relaxed, relatable B-plot is just as crisply handled. Score: 3.5/5 #TrekRewatch5

"Hippocratic Oath" is a sturdy episode, putting O'Brien and Bashir's dynamic to the test, nicely outlining the changes their friendship has seen over past seasons. A solid B-story exploring Worf's adjustment period adds value, while the ending really sticks the landing. Score: 3.5/5 #TrekRewatch5

"The Visitor" is deserving of its place on the mantle of true #StarTrek classics. It outright nails every category making up my scoring system. "Twisted" struggles to find dramatic footing, due to the emotional core of the story being so reliant on to Neelix's struggle with jealousy and his dynamic with Kes. "Elogium" explores themes and broad stroke ideas which are core to #VGR's premise, and feel maturely handled in spots, but the bulk of the drama hinging on the Kes/Neelix dynamic makes this a difficult watch. Nobly and well acted, but it's uncomfortable and poorly aged. Score: 1.5/5 #TrekRewatch5
