🧵1/ Last night I had the privilege of attending an event at ODU’s Hillel, organized by Dr. Amy Milligan. The room was packed to hear Shye Klein share his firsthand account of surviving the Nova Music Festival massacre. What I heard changed me.

Jewish faculty are hiding their identity to survive at work. When fear drives self-censorship, academic discourse suffers. Two surveys show how campus antisemitism operates—not through majority opinion, but through institutional failure to address harassment.

This Selichot season feels different. Not quiet preparation—persistence. Not whispers into the void, but cries that demand to be heard. Forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting. It means carrying grief without letting it consume us, and choosing to return, together.

When even The American Conservative calls Winsome Sears’ campaign a sputtering mess, you know it’s bad. She went north looking for outrage, found a sign, tried to spin up “Signgate”… and it collapsed in less than 24 hours. Virginia’s ready for solutions, not Sears’ climate of manufactured panic.

Spanberger +21 in Hampton Roads. Can’t wait for Kilmeade to explain why that’s “roughly even.”

Kilmeade saw +7 and said, “carry the 1, divide by vibes… yeah that’s 5.”

What happened in Arlington wasn’t just about a meeting. It was about the climate Winsome Sears is creating, one where contempt is currency and neighbors are turned against each other. @abigailspanberger.com is running on something stronger: a Virginia where we solve problems, not invent enemies.

🧵1/ Virginia knows this story: Nazis with torches, “Jews will not replace us,” Heather Heyer murdered. The NYT shows how Trump brought that hate into the White House. And Winsome Sears has brought it into Richmond.

The danger isn’t that we define antisemitism too broadly. The danger is pretending it isn’t there. That’s the real lesson history keeps teaching us, and the mistake we can’t afford to repeat.

Sears is so fixated on bathrooms you’d think she was running for school janitor, not Governor. Virginians deserve a governor who tackles costs, protects freedoms, and strengthens schools, and that’s exactly what Abigail Spanberger will do.

Antisemitism doesn’t vanish. It adapts. From blood libels → to “secret control” → to today’s attacks on Zionism as uniquely illegitimate. IHRA matters because it names this shift. Just like we name racism, sexism, and homophobia when they adapt.

Winsome Sears calls it freedom. Freedom to lose your health insurance. Freedom to skip the medicine you need. Freedom to pray your kid doesn’t get hurt. That’s what 350,000 Virginians are stuck with.

The racist sign in Loudoun. The slur aimed at Del. King. The antisemitic rhetoric from Sam Rasoul. All of this is happening here in Virginia. All of it is disgusting. We can’t pick and choose which hate we condemn. It’s never too late to do the right thing. Speak up, against every form of hate.

The sign was racist, ugly, inexcusable, Spanberger condemned it immediately. What’s inexcusable too is Sears pretending this is the story, when her campaign runs on cruelty toward trans kids. That sign doesn’t define Spanberger, it reflects the climate Sears’ politics create.

The New Yorker says Jews “fundraise off antisemitism.” Imagine telling Black Americans they “fundraise off racism” or women they “fundraise off sexism.” Outrageous double standard. Calling out hate isn’t a grift, it’s survival.

The sign was ugly, Spanberger said so. This isn’t about one protestor, Sears’ entire campaign is built on targeting trans kids. The cruelty isn’t the distraction. The cruelty is the campaign.

Ah yes, the classic “no one is above the law” raid… except, apparently, for the guy who tried to overthrow the government.

The New Yorker got it wrong. Jewish students aren’t fighting a “debate about definitions.” They’re hiding Stars of David, avoiding quads, and asking: Am I safe on campus? Antisemitism isn’t theory. It’s lived. And it’s rising.

Sam Rasoul rails about Zionism online, calling it “evil.” Meanwhile, Jewish students just up the road say they’re being targeted, and Hollins is now in court over a $5M antisemitism lawsuit. His words don’t make them safer. They make things worse.

The Chair of Virginia’s Education Committee told Jewish kids their identity is “evil.” How can any child feel safe in school if the person in charge of education brands Jewish identity as dangerous? You have to see this to believe it.
