Was doing some digging on the Cleveland MLSNP/USL competing stadium bids, and reading through the requests for state funding from the OH sports/cultural fund I noticed this item. Wasn't aware there was an active Toledo USL project - much less trying to get $20M for a stadium.

I will say, having just finished FF16 (which was amazing, btw), it does a pretty nice job of blending this. You are in fact the chosen one and you have to kill god to - not really save the world, but free yourselves to build a new one on the rubble. But also, the aristocracy must be dismantled.

I love lower-league soccer, and there are some great success stories - Vermont among them. Saying it is 'thriving' not three days after Tormenta folds two weeks before their season is a wild thing. The majority of lower-league clubs are like Tormenta, not Vermont.

This continues to be incredibly useful as a fan of an MLS club to keep up with other clubs and happenings. I'd have no idea about non-#NYCFC stuff without something like this.

The USL is desperate to enact pro/rel to grow its fanbase, but the league office offers little support to its clubs once the expansion checks clear. No revenue sharing, and an average of two clubs folding each offseason for a decade. So cynical to drop this update 2-3 weeks before kickoff.

It's genuinely pretty sad, what's happening to Tormenta. Their owner really didn't do anything wrong. He's a local guy, who wanted to do something special and meaningful in his community. The academy is great. This is just how hard it is to run lower-league soccer here. It's brutal financially.

For the record, if I'm MLS and I'm watching USL flounder with their D2 CBA, having D3 clubs fold two weeks before kickoff, etc. I am reaching out to every USLC team and making overtures for a D2 league between MLSNP and MLS. In fact, I'm sure they already are, but I'd be ramping it up heavy.

Lot of smoke seeming like fire around Tormenta FC folding two weeks before the USL League One season. Just brutal. Looking briefly through the current CBA for L1, it seems like non-'for cause' terminations require paying 45-days of salary within 14 days of termination. That's all players get.
