Why seabeds matter? 🌊 💙 These vital habitats are full of incredible wildlife and store vast amounts of carbon. Yet they are threatened with destruction by industrial scale fishing in many areas. For #NationalMarineWeek we’ll be sharing how you can help save our seabeds.

These colourful Cuckoo Wrasse are found on rocky areas around our coastline. They all start life as females but can change to males when the dominant male on the reef disappears! 🌈🐟 #NationalMarineWeek

Worms in the sea are anything but dull and Twin Fan Worms are a perfect example of the intricate beauty these animals possess. Their tentacles help to collect food and extract oxygen from the sea water. 🌀🌊 #NationalMarineWeek

The Little Cuttlefish is often found buried in sandy seabeds with only their eyes exposed, on the look out for predators and prey. They most often appear white with brown and black splodges to blend in with their sandy home, but are able to change colour. 🦑🌊 #NationalMarineWeek

Scallops have 200 small eyes which help to detect predators. They can swim out of harm's way by rapidly opening and shutting their shells, sending out jets of water which propel them over short distances. If they avoid predation they can live up to 20 years! 🐚👀 #NationalMarineWeek

Orange Clubbed Sea Slugs can be found on rocky shores around the country, but at just 2cm in length they can be hard to spot! The vibrant orange clubs covering its body have different functions, including taste and smell. 🧡🌊 #NationalMarineWeek
