the rest of the state st cycletrack is set to be paved this week from grand ave south. it won’t be open for use as it still needs raised crosswalks to cross intersections, but creative people may find a way :) also we are now onto water st, probably the most often redone intersection in the city

“NACTO After Dark” pavement marking demonstration right outside the venue was such an energetic and wholesome event — I hope it becomes a regular staple of future conferences! Big kudos to the City for making this happen.

here in minneapolis a couple days early for the NACTO conference! the light rail directly from the airport *would have* been cool, but it’s a bustitution after one stop this weekend for track work. hiawatha ave paralleling the LRT made for a pretty direct route, but no signal priority :/

As someone who uses the traffic modeling program Synchro, quoting projected queue lengths as the gospel and then using them to fight good transportation design is completely unserious. Synchro is good for getting a general idea of traffic ops and testing phasing but it can’t model human behavior

the relatively new downtown milford parking garage as part of the transit oriented mixed use development. when this was initially being planned, a p&z official complained that the city being given a 97 year lease over it was not enough and it should be in perpetuity

If anything, local news is consistent. Take any road project that is making things better for multimodal travel, and find the angriest car driver possible to get a complaint quote. (Apparently, 25 min + 25 min = 30 min)

thinking about shoreline east and its ridership/service woes. if attracting riders is an issue, why not just place customers directly at the station by redeveloping/consolidating excess surface parking? and if done correctly, creating a 5-minute "village center" could become a destination itself

gaze in awe at the new archway as you get doored in a painted bike lane before sandwiching yourself into the turn lane gauntlet (sorry but there is no excuse for 2010’s street design when even the MUTCD knows what protected bike lanes & intersections are now)

February has seen the installation of many traffic signal foundations on State St. The circular ones are for mast arms and go about 13’ deep. These are mainly for the new signals facing the northbound lanes. Expect to see new steel poles in the air starting sometime in April

A very quick research study into the effectiveness of curbside bus lanes vs center running bus lanes (thread): I have heard designers present both types of bus lanes as having the same operational benefits, but I don't believe that's true. My hypothesis is that center is better than curbside.
