well this explains why @wtnh.bsky.social , after filming a story about an all encompassing transportation and economic development project on state st, and interviewing one (1) driver and one (1) cyclist, chose the headline “drivers express concerns”

The initial screening had so many unique options that would actually reroute the highway away from the city and help restore the neighborhood. Instead we get another couple generations of even larger highways along a riverfront

People think they hate urban canyons, but if you replace all the parked cars without outdoor dining and open streets these blocks become INCREDIBLY charming.

i follow the bids posted by CTDOT weekly, and it looks like the sigourney st cycletrack project is out in hartford! i had heard shortly after it was built that they had designed it to reserve space for bike lanes, and this design looks really good. may do a thread on it at some point

nachtegaalstraat in utrecht, NL has the same building scale and R.O.W. width as upper state st in new haven... what i like about urban dutch streets is that they use very low curbs and put parking behind them (white X), so that when a car is not parked, it is expanded sidewalk space

big surprise! - the state st contractor wants to build the grove st connector and pave some bike lane this month instead of next year as scheduled. the exist. bike lane b/t trumbull & audubon will extend down to wall st, and all of that will connect to the canal trail ext up grove in time for summer

while visiting portland i was waiting for the light in this cycletrack with cars backed up in the turn lane. fire truck approached and decided to enter the cycletrack. since i wasnt surrounded by a 2 ton metal cage i could hear them coming and simply moved up onto the sidewalk to let them pass

watched this last night and sad to say that everyone on the show is not welcome to the war on cars. they had a transit advocate as a guest and they barely let her speak, not to mention derailing the entire topic from Uber onto anti-bike complaints for whatever reason. still a fun show tho otherwise
