All these reasons for expensive housing also apply to the City of North Vancouver We restrict zoning in order to extract taxes from new housing. We take this so far that the next generation of residents and workers is taxed out of an affordable or well-housed life

I've seen quite a few people sneer at voters' "ignorance" for identifying the federal government as the primary culprit in Canada's housing mess. While I probably wouldn't answer "federal", it's not unreasonable. Here's why:

I spoke at North Vancouver City Council this week about engagement plans that ask how BC rules that will add family-sized housing near parks, schools, and transit should be balanced with “heritage preservation values” Very happy that these comments were well received by some Council members

Notice how these protected character homes in my neighbourhood have 4 functional floors It’s illegal to build that in CNV today (3 floors max) Despite a housing shortage, our bylaws keep multiplex homes shorter than single-family homes were 100 years ago 🤨 These buildings should be re-legalized

I spent over $3000 on child care last month so I know how much we need this. More community child care will support working families and reduce burden on our transportation infrastructure. Crazy to think we allowed zoning to push families and children out of our communities in the first place
