Back from a day excavating near Stirling in search of a possible Roman site. Found some interesting features but unlikely to be Roman but we've got another area to explore next year. Here's one of the test trenches

I'd forgotten how exhausting excavating can be. Admittedly I spent more time traipsing across fields and looking at the landscape rather than digging but a few interesting things were noted. Hopefully more news tomorrow.

Let's start the week with some splendid spolia. This porch was built onto the schoolhouse in Rochester, Northumberland in 1852. Look closely and you will see that is was in fact largely constructed from ancient Roman stones taken from the nearby fort known in ancient times as Bremenium. #spolia
