Really interesting research, great thread. Consumers don't know how much more dangerous SUVs are to people outside cars; but even when informed, they don't care. It's going to take regulation, not education, to solve this.

The fact that most of the wealthiest people in the world are awful illustrates that the key requirement for extreme, obscene wealth isn’t “genius.” It’s shamelessness/ruthlessness.

Bike-lanes don’t cause traffic congestion. Car dependency, dumb land-use sprawl, too many (& bigger) cars being driven too much taking up too much space, highly subsidized driving costs, and not enough choices in how to get around, ALL cause traffic congestion. Think about it. THAT’S common sense.

If walking costs you $1, we all pay $0.01. If biking costs you $1, we all pay $0.08. If bussing costs you $1, we all pay $1.50. If driving costs you $1, we all pay $9.20. Via study that still underestimates climate cost. This isn’t about choice. It’s about who pays for your choice. #citymakingmath

I want to live in a world where there is a deeply embedded understanding that we and our environment are one thing. We are profoundly interdependent. What we do to ‘the environment’ we do to ourselves.

Yes to all of this! If I’m ever unfortunate enough to drive to work, it always reinforces my belief that driving is much less pleasant and much less desirable in virtually every way.

I recently had to drive instead of my usual bike commute and I was so struck by what an unpleasant experience it was. I was almost late both days because I couldn’t find parking, volume of traffic made the commute time unpredictable and people just seem to drive very dangerously in the rain! 🚲=😊

Despite preparing for the #CultureCrawl2025 I've still got out a few times to take photos of the #forest and #fungi. These were some huge Amanita muscaria I found including the most perfect specimen I've ever seen! I made one commission of an Amanita in '22 but I feel another one coming on!

Many of you won't have seen this one before. I made it back in 2022 an am including it with the original photo it was based on. A huge Douglas Fir covered in Chicken of the Woods mushrooms (yum!). Sadly when we did the same trail last summer this tree had been cut down. I preserved in felt though!

This piece is special… there’s a story behind it. I went on a #fungi foraging foray in Pacific Spirit park a couple of years ago (which is where I took the pic this piece is based on). The instructor told me lots of fungi react to UV light and if you use some kinds of UV reactive fungi to dye wool..
