I wrote a character traumatised by their upbringing and their betrayal at the hands of their only living family. Then they found someobe who made them feel human and safe, and lost them. In their grief, they went to hell for this person. So many readers hate this character. Guess their gender.

Write for yourself. fwiw, yes, I write because I want to write, because it's fun for me and makes me happy. But for me writing prose is not diary writing, it's an attempt to communicate something, I couldn't express otherwise. I want to be read. Additionally it feels devaluing sometimes.
